The Board of Directors of the St. Marys United Methodist Foundation, Inc. has approved grants for the Fall 2006 Grant Cycle. Grants totaling approximately $1,000,000 will be distributed during the week of 19, 2006 to the following non-profit organizations:
A $15,000 challenge grant to the Camden Children’s Center to support their fiscal year 2007 operating budget. The Camden Center opened in September 2002 and provides support services to child victims of abuse and their families who reside in Camden County. The challenge grant is provided to help the center develop additional sources of financial support.
A $28,500 grant to the Care Net Pregnancy Center to support the medical conversion of the Brunswick and Kingsland Centers. Specifically, the grant will be used to purchase ultrasound equipment for each center. Care Net is a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to advancing the sanctity of human life and sexual purity by providing abstinence education as well as free pregnancy testing and counseling for women with unplanned pregnancies.
A $37,000 grant to the Coastal Coalition for Children to support MELD for Young Dads in Camden County during fiscal year 2007. The Coastal Coalition is organized to work within the community to encourage communication and collaborations among agencies and individuals and to enable the development and coordination of services to high-risk youth and their families.
$45,500 in grants to Epworth By The Sea. The grant is provided in three segments; $21,000 to support two South Georgia Conference Confirmations Retreats during 2007 for the children of the conference churches, $12,800 to support a Ministry Exploration Retreat in 2007 focusing on young people, ages 15-20, providing insight into a career as a minister, children/youth director, program director, music director and other church related ministry positions and $11,700 to support the local pastor’s licensing school in 2007. Epworth By The Sea is located on St. Simons Island and operated by the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
A $97,000 grant to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth to support the fiscal year 2007 operating budget for the St. Marys Regional Office. The Methodist Home Regional Office serves children through a number of services such as First Placement / Best Placement for children in foster care, wrap around services which works to prevent out of home placement and promotes family reunification and stability for children, and counseling which provides spiritual, psychological and emotional support to children and adults within a Christian context. The multi-aged group home provides in-residence care for boys, age five to seventeen, who are severely emotionally disturbed.
A $41,000 grant to the Vashti Center in Thomasville, Georgia to support emergency shelter operations in fiscal year 2007. The Vashti Center is an agency of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church providing a number of various services to children including an emergency shelter, long-term basic care, intermediate residential treatment for emotionally disturbed children, a home for teen mothers and their infant children, marriage and family counseling, and basic education for at-risk youth who have been removed from the public education system.
A $65,000 grant to the STAR Foundation in Brunswick, Georgia to support the fiscal year 2007 operating budget. The STAR Foundation assists individuals in achieving self-sufficiency and economic stability through computer literacy and job readiness training. |
